The Science Education Center, established in 2001 with generous support from the kaolin industry and the University System of Georgia’s Eminent Scholars Trust Fund, is a public learning community exploring the world through science, art, and human perception. We promote access, interest, and participation in science by people of all ages and backgrounds.

Our mission is to create inquiry-based experiences that transform teaching and learning through interdisciplinary approaches and innovative methods.
IMPACT
Each year, the Science Education directly impacts almost 7,000 participants of all ages and backgrounds with science education programs. At best, this is a very conservative figure as many informal programs are not accounted for in our reports.
GOALS
In order to strengthen undergraduate, graduate, faculty, staff, and community STEM and education programs, the Center strives to:
- Build a world-class center of excellence for science learning, teaching, scholarship, and outreach
- Support science education and training through a strong commitment to P-16 education so as to provide a continuous and local source of resources supporting the growth of Georgia and the nation's science and technology industry. Through these activities, the Center will recognize that one primary goal of the university is to engage in innovative approaches to education which can lead to increased scientific literacy
- Provide the mechanism for cooperation and collaboration regarding common interests in science and education among departments and interdisciplinary programs at GCSU and external to the university
- Create and maintain integral and collaborative partnerships with school, district, state, and federal administrators who play an important role in the success of science education
- Develop collaborations with other centers of science and education external to the university
- Pursue federal, state, and corporate opportunities to strengthen undergraduate, graduate, faculty, and community science and education programs; and
- Attract and support state-of-the-art facilities.
