The Georgia College & State University dance minor program within the theatre and dance department provides students with opportunities to study dance within an environment conducive to research, exploration and performance.
Students are encouraged and expected to pursue the physical, scholarly and imaginative aspects of dance while enriching their communication skills and creativity. Through classroom and stage experience, as well as work with guest artists, the students learn about the diverse prospects available in the field of dance. The dance minor program mission is supportive of, and parallel to, the liberal arts mission of GCSU, which fosters creative thinking and interdisciplinary studies. Likewise, there is a focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning as well as community engagement.
Since there is no audition process for the program, the dance minor degree is available to every GCSU student. Courses in the disciplines of ballet, modern, jazz and tap dance are offered as well as dance composition, improvisation, pedagogy and history. Students in our dance minor program develop not only their dance technique, but also a well-rounded, intellectual capacity.
