What internships are available?
While the GC in DC Internship Program is predominantly focused on helping students obtain internships on Capitol Hill, students participating in the program are free to pursue other internship opportunities, including non-profits, federal departments, and lobbyists.
Are internships paid?
Most Washington, D.C. internships are non-paid and allow the student to gain valuable work experience and insight into how the three branches of government work and how nongovernmental organizations, trade associations and businesses interact in the nation's capital. Depending on the organization, some may offer Metro travel stipends.
How much does it cost to participate in the GC in DC Internship Program?
While there is no direct cost associated with the GC in DC Internship Program, you should consider the costs of living and working in Washington, D.C.
Your expenses in D.C. can vary depending on the length of your internship (typically 4-6 weeks), the cost of your accommodations, and your individual living expenses (including groceries and travel). Financial assistance may be available through the program, but it is not guaranteed and may not cover all expenses.
Additionally, if you receive academic credit for your internship, you will be required to pay tuition fees and will thus have access to financial assistance.

To participate in the GC in DC Internship program, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Do you take Graduate students?
Yes! In fact, some internships only take graduate students.
How long do I have to respond to an internship offer?
You should respond immediately as the internships are very competitive, but some may allow two business days (this is at the discretion of the employer).
What is the Deadline for Submitting my Program Application?
For the Fall 2025 application cycle, program applications must be submitted by April 11th, 2025.
