Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the John H. Lounsbury College of Education

What does it mean to truly prepare an educator?

At the John H. Lounsbury College of Education at Georgia College & State University, we believe the answer goes far beyond content knowledge and classroom skills. We prepare thoughtful educators and leaders who make a lasting difference in classrooms, schools, communities, and society. Our faculty are dedicated teacher-scholars who, alongside our staff, are committed to building a learning community where every student thrives. At the heart of this work is a conviction that educators are more than instructors. They are mentors, advocates, innovators, and Architects of Change.

But what do architects do? They begin with vision and purpose. They think intentionally about foundations, function, and the people their work will ultimately serve, and they dare to imagine what is possible. That is the work of educators as well.

As a liberal arts institution, we believe education is about more than mastering content or acquiring professional skills. It is about developing people who think critically, communicate effectively, engage ethically, and lead courageously. These qualities are not aspirational extras; they are essential for educators entrusted with shaping the lives of others.

To prospective students: if you are looking for a place where you will be known, challenged, supported, and inspired, explore our programs or schedule a visit. We would love to welcome you.

To our alumni: your leadership in classrooms, schools, and communities across Georgia and beyond is a testament to what this college stands for. Stay connected and consider returning as a mentor, a guest speaker, or a graduate student pursuing your next degree. Your story matters to the next generation of educators we are preparing today.

To our school district and community partners: your collaboration is essential to our work. Whether through clinical practice, professional learning, or community-based research, we are eager to build and strengthen partnerships that create meaningful and lasting impact. Reach out to discuss what we can accomplish together.

Thank you for visiting. We invite you to explore our programs, connect with our community, and join us as we continue preparing educators who are truly Architects of Change.

Go Bobcats!
