To withdraw from all of your courses for a given term:
If you need to withdraw from GCSU, please access the withdrawal form through MyGCSU>PAWS > Student Services > Online Withdrawal Form. You will receive a confirmation email from the system once the withdrawal has been submitted.
If you only want to drop an individual course from your semester schedule while remaining enrolled in other courses, please use the instructions on the add/drop courses page. Note: You cannot drop your final course for the term, you will need to fill out a withdrawal form.
Important Information:
- Students who withdraw for any reason between the first day of classes and last day to drop a course with a W grade (see exact dates) will receive grades of "W" in all courses in which they are enrolled at the time of the withdrawal, unless previously assigned an "F" for excessive absences. W grades awarded for a complete withdrawal do not count toward the undergraduate 5W limit.
- Students who withdraw after the last day to drop a course with a W grade (see exact dates) will receive grades of "WF" in all courses in which they are enrolled at the time of the withdrawal, unless previously assigned an "F" for excessive absences. A "WF" grade has the same effect on your grade point average as a grade of "F."
- If a withdrawal completed after the last day to drop a course with a W grade is due to nonacademic extenuating circumstances beyond the student's control, and if the student is passing all courses at the time of the withdrawal, the student may petition to receive grades of "W" instead of "WF." This request should be made using a petition form, include a thorough explanation of the circumstances and any related documentation available, and must be approved by the student's advisor, department chair, dean, and University Registrar.
- If a student withdraws after the last day to drop a course with a W grade is due to a student's medical condition, the student may petition to receive grades of "W" instead of "WF." The request for a medical withdrawal should include a letter from the student's medical care provider on official letterhead detailing the diagnosis, date of onset, dates of consultations, and verification that this condition would have affected the ability of the student to attend classes and complete academic coursework. The request should also include a statement from the student that includes the last date of class attendance. This request should be made using a petition form, and must be approved by the student's advisor, department chair, dean, and University Registrar.
Please note, there is no need to provide medical documentation or to complete this process for a withdrawal prior to the last day to drop with a W grade. On or before the last day to drop with a W grade, the student can withdraw on their own using the online withdrawal form in their MyGCSU/PAWS account. - Unless there is a particularly unusual and specific circumstance, requests to withdraw from some classes but not others are not approved.
- Students who withdraw from all courses may be required to return a portion of any federal financial aid received for that semester. Withdrawals may also impact a student's future financial aid eligibility. Contact the Financial Aid Office for additional information.
- Students who withdraw during the first half of the semester will receive a pro-rated refund. For more information, visit the Business and Finance Web site.
- Failure to withdraw officially will result in the grade of "F" in all courses.
- The timing of withdrawals in order to avoid academic or fee penalty is the responsibility of the student. Deadlines are published in the Academic Calendar.
