ODED 4540. ADMINISTRATIVE PERSPECTIVES IN OUTDOOR EDUCATION. (2-2-3) FALL
Prerequisites: ODED 3500 and ODED 3010. Provides an overview of administrative responsibilities and procedures related to outdoor education programs and services. Professional standards, human resource development, program planning and implementation, site planning, strategic management, program evaluation, and funding strategies are addressed. Field trips are required.
ODED 4560. SENIOR SEMINAR IN OUTDOOR EDUCATION. (2-0-2) SPRING
Prerequisites: Outdoor Education major and ODED 4540. A capstone course focusing on professional development and critical issues in the profession in preparation for the internship. Students will complete a project and of professional interest, compile a professional portfolio that provides evidence of competency for program goals and degree requirements.
ODED 4760. PLANT TAXONOMY. (2-4-4)
Plant Taxonomy provides the content and training needed to equip environmental science students with the skills required to identify vascular plants and use taxonomic data within the context of their profession. This course is not appropriate for biology majors and excludes in depth coverage of evolutionary processes and phylogenetics of vascular plants.
ODED 4803. INDEPENDENT STUDY IN OUTDOOR EDUCATION. (3-0-3) FALL, SPRING, SUMMER
The Independent Study in Outdoor Education is a research project in a selected area of professional interest. The student will complete the independent study contract in conjunction with the faculty supervisor. Signatures signify agreement to the terms of the contract. Approval of the Department is required. This course is repeatable for credit.
ODED 4908. INTERNSHIP IN OUTDOOR EDUCATION. (0-40-10) SUMMER
Prerequisites: Major restriction, approval of the department, and ODED 4560. An individually designed and planned field experience normally completed in the summer following the completion of all major requirements. Internship selection and approval are based on the student's professional goals and facility suitability for offering an appropriate learning opportunity.
ODED 4920. PRACTICUM IN OUTDOOR EDUCATION. (0-12-3) FALL, SPRING, SUMMER
Prerequisites: Permission of the department, ODED 3010, and ODED 3500. An opportunity to gain experience with a mentor facility related to the cognate area of specialization. This course is repeatable for credit.
